《华盛顿邮报》社论指出,即使特朗普任期仅剩下14天,但早已不适任的他,在白宫多待一秒仍拥有巨大权力,对公共秩序与国家安全是一大威胁,故彭斯必须离开参议院的保护圈,立即召集内阁成员并启动宪法第25条修正案,宣布特朗普“已无法履行其在任内的权力与职责”;即使特朗普坚持反对,国会也应该立即批准,让彭斯暂任总统直至20日拜登就职。

《纽时》也在社论中指出,总统应该要替暴民闯入国会负责,不论是透过弹劾或者起诉犯罪,而实施暴力的川粉们也同样需付出代价。此外,也应该针对国会警察为何无法预先防范暴民攻击进行调查,毕竟他们早向大众宣布有此预谋。

另外,全国制造业协会(National Association of Manufacturers)执行长狄蒙斯(Jay Timmons)表示,特朗普“煽动暴力试图继续掌权,民选领袖为他辩护,就是违背对宪法的誓言、背弃民主、支持无政府”,呼吁彭斯应该认真考虑和内阁合作,援引宪法第25修正案来维护民主。
